Hello dr. Fuhrman,
I’m hoping for an answer to food issues that have been pining me for a long time.
I am a Mary contrary not by inclination but, it seems, by nature. I live in Sweden, where food is less degraded that in the US. We have no GMOs, no CAFO’s, less pesticides and fewer additives allowed. But also a lot of foodstuffs recommended in your diet are not available.
I haven’t eaten junk food for 40 years, I cook real food from scratch, I stopped eating added sugar 7 years ago and seed oils 5 years ago. I eat twice a day in a 10 hour window. I am 67 years old, I have BMI of 18 and I can’t afford to lose weight. I have autoimmune issues and am recovering from HER2 breast cancer. I have never had problems with insulin or cholesterol.
My problem is that I find it hard to follow the appropriate anti-cancer diet. If I eat purely vegetarian I get depressed after 3 days. When I eat slow baked pork belly and lard my body says thank you (I eat fairly small amounts of meat (about 4 oz) about twice a week and always combined with herbs to neutralize any cancer causing substances). I usually have no gut issues but if I eat beans, I feel nauseous. I also feel nauseous if I drink green juices. I can manage celery juice 3 times a week. I don’t tolerate fatty fish, cucumber, kiwis, quinoa, and I seem to react to spinach and arrugula. I eat large salads daily. Due to Hashimoto’s I’m recommended to be careful about eating oxalate containing greens.
I can’t eat veggies in the morning, so I eat a small amount of home made bread (spelt and oat) which keeps me satiated for at least 4 hours, twice a week I eat eggs but they only keep me feeling full for 2 hours. In the summer I try to eat fruit but then I get hungry after 1 hour.
Unfortunately I’m unable to attend the zoom meeting but any comments or advice would be much appreciated.

I went from pre-diabetic to diabetic after one year of strictly adhering to a WFPB diet (following Daily Dozen), moderate exercise, losing 20 lbs (with that much more to go however). Now have reluctantly changed to LCHF inc., animal proteins sadly, but I am back to 6.1 Ha1C in 2 months. Please explain what happened. This is an earnest question! I desperately want to go back to WFPB. PS: why do some experts assert that fat raises insulin/blood glucose when it clearly doesn’t.
I’ve managed my hypothyroidism for decades with medication and a few months ago my TSH levels were doubled, my meds increased. I’m a 71 year-old inactive, overweight male. In addition to obviously addressing these two lifestyle shortcomings, what specific food choices can help me reverse this condition? I take supplementation already. PS I had a NET removed 1.5 years ago and am disease free as far as the scans show.

What is your opinion on taking high therapeutic doses of nutraceuticals? can they stop and turn off cancer signaling pathways or can a “normal dose”, like those listed on the label, be just as effective? In my situation, my integrative doctor wants me to ingest high doses of resveratrol, curcumin, quercectin, ecgc, medicinal mushrooms and berberine. It equates to taking a lot of supplements and i’m at risk for bowel blockages after a stomach surgery in 2017 and just last July, i did have a bowel obstruction which landed me in the hospital for 5 days. Are super high doses necessary, or is that excessive? If they are necessary, do you have some company products you could recommend so I could get the items above in a powder, or liquid tinctures form so my body could process them easier and I wouldn’t be as at risk for bowel obstructions.

My husband & I eat well (at least 95% of the time with organic vegis, fruit & even organic meat & wild caught fish). I add supplements like a ‘good’ multivite, Omega 3s, MSM & tumeric (for arthritis – & it’s working!), quercetin (re: Covid prevention etc ) & lutine (re start of maculardegeneration) & MCT oil (to prevent Alz which is in my family). My husbands takes NO supplements & says I am wasting my money! What is your opinion on taking vitamins? My husband & I are both healthy & in our early 70s. I have longevity in my family (my grandma lived to 105!) & I want that & health! Also, what do you think of expensive whole food vitamins vs ‘good’ synthetic vitamins? Thx
