Ask the Experts (Live Q&A) Dr. Bernie Siegel – Psychological and Emotional Healing for Cancer

Dr. Bernie Siegel, one of our core faculty members of the Health and Healing Club, is coming on to answer your questions related to Psychological and Emotional Healing for Cancer.

LIVE Q&A is on Wednesday, September 1st, at 11:30 am Mountain Time

If you can not attend the live session, you can submit your questions ahead of time and we will get through as many as possible.

Dr. Siegel, who prefers to be called Bernie, not Dr. Siegel, was born in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College. He holds membership in two scholastic honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with honors. His surgical training took place at Yale New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veteran’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He retired from practice as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Yale of general and pediatric surgery in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers.

In 1978, he originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “carefrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual’s life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. He realized exceptional behaviour is what we are all capable of.

In 1986 his first book, Love. Medicine & Miracles was published. This event redirected his life. In 1989 Peace, Love & Healing and in 1993 How To Live Between Office Visits followed. He is currently working on other books with the goal of humanizing medical education and medical care, as well as, empowering patients and teaching survival behaviour to enhance immune system competency. Bernie’s realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to Bernie writing his fourth book in 1998 Prescriptions for Living. It helps people to become aware of the eternal truths and wisdom of the sages through Bernie’s stories and insights rather than wait a personal disaster.

To Dr. Bernie Siegel – AUG 27, 2021 – How interesting – survival behaviour to enhance immune system competency! I NEED that. Following breast cancer treatments and an aromatase inhibitor (A.I.), I’ve crashed from the A.I. I was doing great until I started the A.I. – now on my second one. My labs are good except for high cholesterol which runs in my family and is also a side effect of taking an A.I. However, I stay anxious, bloated (now SIBO), tired (now adrenal fatigue), and ready to give up after being on the A.I. for 8 months. I have also been in counseling since FEB 2021. What can I do now? I usually bounce back but haven’t this time.

  2. I am a three-time breast cancer survivor. Er/pr+ I was adopted from birth. My original placement did not work out as I was a sickly infant due to allergies. I’m wondering about the role adoption might play in my disease story. I feel thankful to have been adopted after meeting my bio moms family and hearing about her and the hardships her family faced. I don’t feel like I’m harboring resentments. But I realize there are emotional and psychological aspects to getting cancer three times. Do you have any suggestions?

    Q&A
I have 3 siblings who died from Liver, Colon & Cervical Cancer. 2 died before the age of 50 another died at 68 years old. Do all those cancers have a genetic component? I myself struggle with the colon but did not go conventional like my siblings. What kind of lifestyle and what can I do psychologically and emotionally to live longer and healthier? Words of encouragement please! I am 64. Thank you so much!
